I've won the Premier League and I can save Tottenham - Igor Tudor looks lost

Tottenham are at risk of a third managerial change in less than 12 months after collapsing at Atletico Madrid, with one man confidence of getting things back on track

It looks as though Igor Tudor's time at Tottenham could be cut incredibly short following the Champions League capitulation at Atletico Madrid. And former club boss Tim Sherwood has already put his hand up as a contender to save their season.

The campaign went from terrible to even worse on Tuesday following a 5-2 defeat in the Spanish capital, Tudor's fourth loss in as many games at the helm. The first leg of their last-16 encounter ended in tears as Atletico scored four goals in the opening 22 minutes, three of which were down to defensive errors.

Second-choice goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky was hauled off after 17 minutes following two howlers leading to goals. And with confidence clearly shot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, fans will be reminded of Sherwood's self-promotion when Thomas Frank was fired last month.

"It was an honour for me to manage that football club, and it would be an honour for me to manage them again," he told Sky Sports in February. "I can do the job. I have proved that I can do the job. What they can't do is make a mistake with this appointment."

However, the 57-year-old, who won the Premier League as a Blackburn player in 1995, went on to acknowledge just how unlikely it was he would actually get the nod. Sherwood was among the longest-odds options available at the time and his chances may be even further out today.

He continued: "I'm 50/1, so there's no chance really...but maybe it's not sexy enough, I might have too much of a personality for that hierarchy. If you look at what I did when I went in there, I did the job.

"I did the job I was asked to do and won more games than losses. My home record was excellent as well. I played on the front foot. Forget how you're going to play in this situation, they need to win, no matter how you play, you need to win."

Tottenham Hotspur have reached the UEFA Champions League round of 16 where they face Atlético Madrid on March 10. Fans can watch the game on the TNT Sports Prime Video channel.

Sherwood went on to stress the importance of confidence, of which Spurs have very little at present. That much was evident in the Atletico implosion as a string of laughable errors in defence curtailed their chances in the blink of an eye.

The club currently sits 16th in the Premier League and is only one point above 18th-place West Ham, who are in far superior form. Former Juventus and Marseille boss Tudor is already being linked with the exit after just 360 minutes of game time in charge.

Speaking prior to the Madrid trip, Sherwood told Sky Sports: "I think he's been slapped straight in the face by the competition in the Premier League. It ain't easy. This is a tough competition.

"He looks lost at times on the touchline; he knew nothing about it. He's gone from, 'I 100 per cent guarantee we spend next season in the Premier League' to 'The players are not fit enough, we're not good in attack, we're not good in the middle, we're not good at the back, we need our injured players back to fitness'."

The former Tottenham midfielder implored the Croat to "get on with what you've got" and concentrate on forming a plan around those players who are fit and available. With tensions at fever pitch in north London, the focus should be around lifting player morale and "giving them a cuddle," rather than lashing out at those not performing as hoped.

Spurs face a monumental challenge in attempting to subvert their scoreline against Atletico in next week's return leg at home. Prior to that, however, there's the small matter of a trip to Premier League titleholders Liverpool on Sunday.
