Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen says that Liverpool boss Arne Slot reminds him of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Speaking about Slot’s approach, Meulensteen highlighted how the Reds head coach's sole focus is on the club and the players rather than himself, snubbing claims that former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is similar to Ferguson.
“I wouldn't compare Jose Mourinho with Sir Alex Ferguson in any shape or form" said Meulensteen. "Mourinho is all about himself, whereas with Ferguson, it was all about the club, the players, and winning. This is exactly the same with Arne Slot. I think Slot has far more comparisons to Ferguson than anybody else.
"Similar to Jurgen Klopp, he's charismatic, has a good personality, and is a great communicator."
Speaking to Coin Poker, the 61-year-old continued, “A good measure is how the fans would like to associate themselves with managers. Every Liverpool fan would want to associate themselves with Klopp, a big figure, smiling all the time, energetic, and strong.
“Slot has many of those qualities as well. He's obviously not a Jurgen Klopp, but he still has a nice demeanour about him. He smiles, he's reassuring, and he comes across with a lot of confidence.
“He can explain things really well, and that is what people want to know and hear. So, I can see nothing else than another good season for them.”
Meulensteen, who claimed four league titles as part of Ferguson’s coaching staff at United, predicted Slot to be a success in England before the start of his first season in charge of the Reds, where the Dutchman's side subsequently went on to win the Premier League.
Comparing him to previous Red Devils boss Erik Ten Hag back in November, Meulensteen told Tribal Football : "I predicted that Slot could hit the ground running at Liverpool, partly because he has a completely different character to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
"He had to follow in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp which are big shoes to fill, but he came in and didn’t change too much. He just tweaked a few little things and used it to his strength. He is a great communicator with a clear vision and knew what he wanted to take with him from Feyenoord."
