Ian Wright has confirmed that Laura Woods is "fine" following her worrying collapse during ITV's live coverage of England's friendly against Ghana on Tuesday evening. Woods was presenting the ITV4 programme from Southampton when she suddenly slumped forward without warning.
Wright and Anita Asante managed to catch Woods before the broadcast swiftly cut away from the scene. The audio remained live momentarily, picking up Wright checking on Woods' wellbeing before an advertisement break was shown.
Woods later took to Instagram to reassure concerned viewers about her condition. "Gosh that was a bit weird," she posted. "Sorry to worry everyone, I'm OK, the wonderful paramedics at Saints have said it's probably a virus, just need a bit of rest and rehydration.
"I'm really embarrassed that happened on TV, but a big thank you to my colleagues at ITV who have really looked after me tonight. And to Wrighty and Neets for catching me, and sorry again x."
Wright has since offered a further encouraging update regarding Woods' health on the Stick to Football podcast. Before any football discussion commenced, both Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville enquired about the 38-year-old's wellbeing from the former Arsenal and England striker.
"She's fine, I got a message this morning," he revealed. "It was worrying last night, but she's fine."
Jill Scott added: "She put a message around saying they think she has a virus, bless her. Must be horrible when that happens on TV."
Before Roy Keane lightened the mood with his quip: "Not the first woman to fall into your arms Ian?" Wright responded: "I can't do anything around this guy!" And Keane added: "You'll get a knighthood for that or something! You'll get an award or something!"
Woods encountered another health scare last year when she was forced to withdraw from presenting the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk bout following a bizarre accident that left her with severe injuries. Taking to social media, she revealed she had sustained an injury whilst on holiday with fiancé Adam Collard.
She posted on Instagram: "Just wanted to explain my absence from the telly for a little while, to be totally transparent and avoid any speculation.
"I had an accident last weekend at a holiday cottage. I swung a pillow and hit a large, glass lampshade hanging from the ceiling above me, which shattered and cut my face and arms, but luckily missed my eye.
"I wanted to say a couple of thank yous, firstly to Adam, for being my hero that day, acting so quickly and not leaving my side since and to his family for taking care of me in a time when I was petrified.
"To my agents Alex Maguire and Matthew Odonohue at CAA who searched for the best help immediately. To Dr Yannis Alexandrides and his wonderful medical assistant Zuzanna at 111 who opened their emergency surgery and came in on their days off, they were so gentle and have already worked magic that I didn't think was possible to reduce the damage."
