Ibrahima Konate mocks Arsenal's William Saliba with brutal three-word joke

3 hours ago 29

Ibrahima Konate mocked compatriot William Saliba as he signed a picture of himself holding the Premier League trophy at the end of last season.

The pair are currently on France duty together, and met fans at the Les Bleus' training base ahead of Friday's meeting with Azerbaijan in Paris. Grasping the picture of himself holding the title last May, Konate turned to Saliba and said, "it's you, huh?", clearly mocking Saliba, who is yet to get his hands on the title with Arsenal.

Saliba has finished as a runner-up in each of the last three seasons, and it looks as though both Arsenal and Liverpool could be in the running come the business end of the season once again.

The two teams currently occupy the top two spots in the division, with Arsenal leapfrogging the Reds last weekend courtesy of a 2-0 win over West Ham.

Liverpool missed the chance to regain top spot as it fell to a defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge — the team's third successive defeat in all competitions.

Liverpool lost to Crystal Palace a week earlier before a Champions League defeat at the hands of Galatasaray, prompting concerns about the way the team has begun the campaign.

Disregarding the Community Shield, Arne Slot's team had won its opening six games of the campaign, but were rarely convincing across that run of victories.

Slot addressed the difficulties Liverpool has faced since the start of the season in a press conference following the loss to Chelsea.

"I think you are never close to your ideal," he said after being asked how close he is to building a team in his "ideal image."

He added: "You have to work really hard to reach a certain level and then it's very hard in football because you also play against very good teams to keep that level going and what I mean with that is consistency.

"But it is clear we had our changes in the summer, players came in in different moments. Last week there's hardly been any training time and still we need to try to bring these players in.

"If the result would have been better today with a draw or a win – which was both possible, I don't say we deserved it, a draw we definitely deserved – then we would have had a great start to the season if you take into account everything what happened in the summer at Liverpool."
