Igor Tudor names attributes that could make Archie Gray a ‘quality’ midfielder at Tottenham

Igor Tudor has revealed what impresses him the most about Archie Gray after the Tottenham youngster delivered an outstanding performance against Atletico Madrid.

While Spurs were eliminated from the Champions League yesterday, beating Atletico Madrid 3-2 has given a lift to everyone associated with the club.

The Lilywhites were fully deserving of the win, and gave the Spanish side a few scares, even though Diego Simeone’s men came into the second leg with a three-goal advantage.

Several Tottenham players stood up and delivered impressive displays, none more so than a 20-year-old, who was an animal in the middle of the park.

Igor Tudor reveals Archie Gray’s best position in Tottenham side

It can be argued that it was a coming-of-age performance from Gray, who dominated proceedings in the middle of the park.

Tudor admitted that it is his unique package of physical and mental attributes that makes the youngster so special.

The Tottenham boss suggested that the pairing of the Leeds academy graduate and Pape Sarr in midfield has made the difference for his side in the past two games.

When asked about Gray’s outstanding performance against Atletico, Tudor told Football.London: “I agree, I agree. He’s a guy, you know the positions he plays everywhere, so probably this position in the middle is, I believe, the best one for him. But he’s playing continually in the right way, in a good way.

“It’s a mix of quality, physically and mentally, to always make the right choices and be humble and have legs to do so. He needs to continue this, he’s still young, so every day he needs a new confirmation [of what he can do]. Together with Pape, I see them very well, there’s a quality between these two players. The last two games, they really made a difference.”

Tudor delighted with Spurs’ attacking trio

Spurs were without the suspended Richarlison and the injured Dominic Solanke for yesterday’s clash, but the attacking trio of Mathys Tel, Randal Kolo Muani and Xavi Simons were more than a handful for Atletico to deal with.

Tudor praised the Dutchman who netted a brace as well as the French duo, who combined for Tottenham’s opening goal.

The Spurs boss added: “Also, I think Xavi was very good, happy for him, showed the talent, it was not easy to play there in the middle, where it’s always difficult, in the front, Mathys also, did good things. Kolo as well, behind, so it was a sensation that even we can make it, when it was a foul on Xavi, the referee didn’t give us the foul, that little bit changed the game. But as I said before, we take a good direction as a team and we need to continue.”
