Igor Tudor receives Tottenham advice from relegation expert Sam Allardyce

Sam Allardyce has shed light on what Igor Tudor needs to do to make an immediate impact at Tottenham and to secure the club’s Premier League status.

Tudor has walked into Spurs at an extremely challenging time, with the squad ravaged by injuries.

The new Tottenham interim coach has confirmed that he only has 13 fit players to choose from for the North London derby, which is far from ideal for any manager.

While a positive result on Sunday could galvanise the club, the newcomer will be aware that a bad defeat could leave the club in serious danger of relegation.

Sam Allardyce calls on Tottenham players to take responsibility in relegation fight

No manager in the history of the Premier League has as much experience of relegation battles as Allardyce, who has regularly been brought in at clubs with the sole aim of securing their top-flight status.

However, the experienced English manager insisted that it all depends on whether the players step up and show character in these situations.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “We can all claim we did this and did that before the first game we managed, but we haven’t done that much really.

“What we hope for is that the players go out and prove themselves. Why shouldn’t you give 100 million per cent when you earn 150 grand a week? You get the best food and one of the best facilities in the country at Tottenham – and don’t give your 110 per cent? You should be kicked out of the club if you don’t.”

Allardyce reveals Igor Tudor’s main challenge at Spurs

Some pundits have said that Tottenham have taken a huge gamble by appointing Tudor, given his lack of Premier League experience.

However, Allardyce believes that any appointment at this stage would have been a risk and insisted that the Croat’s primary job is to immediately identify the main problems at the club and simplify things for the Tottenham players.

The 71-year-old added: “Any coach going in at this stage, it’s a risk. It’s a challenge. You’ve got to find out what the problems are – and there are problems – as quick as you can.

“They just need to simplify things. If you’re conceding too many goals, try to stop that. If you’re not scoring enough, try and improve that. Then we’ll start going in the right direction. They [the players] need to take to what they’re trying to achieve. And it needs to be done overnight. That’s how hard the job is.”
