Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola spoke about Erling Haaland's post-match interviews after the Monaco game
Pep Guardiola said he prefers to keep his frustration 'in the basement' after Erling Haaland blasted Manchester City for their performance against Monaco.
The No.9 repeated that he was ****** off in one interview and slammed the team for 'not being good enough' in another as they conceded a late goal to draw 2-2 in their second Champions League game of the season. Haaland had scored his tenth and eleventh goals of the season to twice give the Blues a lead, but they could not hold on.
Haaland's remarks stood out for their bluntness, but also because they contrasted what manager Pep Guardiola and captain Bernardo Silva had said. Those two were generally positive about the performance, with Silva suggesting that they felt on the pitch that a number of decisions had gone against them.
Guardiola took his time to answer when asked about Haaland's comments on Friday, and when he did respond he preferred to talk about how he likes to handle the media.
"I like when they are like this," he started. "I don’t know....My feelings about the team when it’s bad… in front of you I don’t like to express it.
"I like to have it to myself, my players, in the basement. I like to share it there. All of us were [angry]. We want to win but we couldn’t do it.
"We did many, many good things. The other things we can do better. It’s normal in the process. We’ll work on it. We had chances to score the third and it’s not a problem."
City can make it seven games unbeaten if they avoid defeat at Brentford. They have won four games and drawn two of their six matches since the September international break, conceding late equalisers in the two draws.
