When Jack Grealish turned out for Manchester City's open training session earlier this month he was greeted with a roar among the loudest of the day.

The 29-year-old had barely kicked a ball in anger for the club over the past few months - having been left out of the Club World Cup squad and left on the bench in the FA Cup final with City chasing the game.

Yet those supporters inside the Joie Stadium were as delighted to see Grealish as they were almost anyone else.

The winger played a pivotal role in the treble winning season and that contribution won't be forgotten by Blues fans.

He'll be in a different shade of blue tonight when the opening weekend of the Premier League concludes. Grealish joined Everton on loan last week with the Toffees having the option to purchase the England international for £50million in the summer.

His arrival on Merseyside has been heralded as the stardust the club needed ahead of their new campaign and their first in their glitzy new ground.

Grealish was attracted to the prospect of a move to Everton a month or so ago and was more than happy to help facilitate the switch.

His stock had fallen dramatically under Pep Guardiola and the manager who had, by Grealish's own admission, done so much for him during the past few years, had now seemingly cast him aside.

Moyes and Everton sense an opportunity.

“I think we are all seeing there is a Jack Grealish who played for Aston Villa, there’s one who played for Manchester City, one we’ve seen playing for England and along the line there he is playing for arguably the best manager in the world," said the Everton boss.

Grealish will be determined to prove the doubters wrong, find his form and fluency and try and play his way into England's World Cup squad.

His debut in a Monday night fixture with Leeds United could well be the overwhelming narrative of the fixture.

Everton supporters will want to see the best version of Grealish. So too will City's.
