Jack Wilshere expects Tottenham meeting as ex-Arsenal star reveals 'dream' position

Jack Wilshere has given a subtle Tottenham relegation verdict with the ex-Arsenal star facing the prospect of taking on his old clubs bitter rivals

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has shared his thoughts on the possibility of facing Tottenham next season. Currently in charge of Luton Town, who sit 10th in League One, Wilshere is eyeing promotion to the Championship while Spurs are facing the real threat of relegation from the Premier League.

The Gunners' north London rivals are fifth from bottom in the table and just one point above the drop zone following West Ham United's win over Fulham. The latter beat Tottenham the previous weekend with Arsenal among the other four teams to have defeated Spurs over the last few weeks.

Though the Lilywhites are not in the bottom three, they are in awful form having yet to win in 2026 with Wilshere presented a scenario in a recent press conference that could feasibly play out over the coming months.

Asked if the dream scenario would be managing Luton in the Championship and playing against Tottenham, he said: "The dream would just be for me to manage Luton in the Championship.

"I watched a little bit of Tottenham last night [vs Crystal Palace] and believe it or not, a lot of my family are Tottenham fans and over the years we had some really good banter about it. But at the moment my dream is to manage Luton in the Championship and it might be against Tottenham."

Though Luton are six points away from the play-offs, that gap could decrease this month with Wilshere's side facing several promotion rivals. The Hatters not winning any of their last four league games has not helped matters but their focus has somewhat been elsewhere.

In between many of those fixtures, Luton have been contesting EFL Trophy knockout matches and a 2-1 win over Northampton Town earlier this week has seen them set up a final against Stockport County at Wembley in mid-April.

Arsenal will be fighting for silverware themselves at England's national stadium as they take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final a few weeks earlier.

The Gunners are also in a huge Premier League title battle against Pep Guardiola's side and extended their lead at the top to seven points following victory away at Brighton.

With a favourable knockout path in the Champions League also emerging last month, Mikel Arteta is in a great position to finally secure a major trophy.

However, if the Spaniard is unable to finally claim a big prize, questions could be asked over his future at the club but Wilshere seemingly has no doubt over his talent as a coach.

Back in October 2025, he said: “I’d never seen someone coach that way,” the 33-year-old says. “I’d never seen his passion, I’d never seen how he would try and teach the players, both in meetings and on the pitch. I was on my A license at the time, and it kind of inspired me to do it.”

Wilshere has managed Arsenal's under-18s alongside being first-team coach and interim manager at Norwich City prior to his current spell at the helm of Luton.
