James Maddison has been keeping active while he recovers from injury, and the Tottenham Hotspur star has uploaded a video which shows him wearing the shirt of a former Spurs cult hero.

Tottenham Hotspur have felt the effects of having so many attacking-minded players forced to remain on the sidelines through injury.

James Maddison has been one of the club’s biggest losses since he suffered a cruciate ligament tear last year. The playmaker’s creativity and long-range shooting abilities are certainly not easy to replace.

However, Maddison has been working to recover as quickly as possible, and this includes completing individual on-pitch training.

James Maddison pays tribute to Rafael van der Vaart and Tottenham star in training video

Maddison has been keeping Spurs fans updated on his recovery with regular social media videos, and his latest shows him completing an attacking training ground drill.

The 29-year-old did so whilst wearing a Rafael van der Vaart jersey from the 2011/12 season, a campaign which saw Tottenham finish in the top four of the Premier League table.

As well as acknowledging one of the great talents to have featured at White Hart Lane, Maddison finished off his drill with the iconic Mohammed Kudus bench celebration.

The right winger is also out with an injury, but he is likely to be ready for match action sooner than Maddison.

Tottenham could use a player like van der Vaart right now

Spurs have an injury crisis on their hands, and the midfield is a particular problem, with Rodrigo Bentancur set to miss 13 matches and Lucas Bergvall also out of action.

If van der Vaart was a bit younger, Tottenham would certainly be happy to call on him to bring balance back to their midfield. The Dutchman might not have been in North London for long, but the impact he made is still clear to see after all these years.
