Tottenham midfielder James Maddison had front row seats as Jamie Carragher fired back at Mohamed Salah over his explosive Liverpool interview.
Salah sparked a civil war at Anfield over the weekend when he accused Liverpool of throwing him under the bus after being dropped to the bench for a third consecutive game by Arne Slot. The Egyptian has since been left out of the squad for the Champions League game against Inter Milan.
Carragher was also in the firing line as Salah suggested he was being unfairly targeted with all eyes on the Reds legend as he responded on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.
And Carragher didn't disappoint. He brandished Salah a 'disgrace' for his comments in a passionate rant about the way he has disrespected the club, its fans and his teammates.
"I think whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, which he’s done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it’s choreographed with him and his agent to cause maximum damage, and strengthen his own position," Carragher said.
“The one line that stands out for me is ‘thrown under the bus’. He’s tried to throw the club under the bus twice in the last 12 months with the situations that I’ve just mentioned.
“I think some of the criticism this season of Mo Salah has been excessive. I’ve said that publicly, but I will go after Mo Salah when he tries to throw my club under the bus off the pitch and just think about himself, so I certainly will do that.
"Whether he will play for Liverpool again, I don't know. I hope he does, because he's one of the greatest players we've ever had, but if you continue like that and statements like that, if he doesn't play, as I've said, who knows."
Maddison was in the studio as guest on the show and offered behind-the-scenes insight as he seemingly stood off-set while Carragher launched his tirade.
It is unclear if Salah will play for Liverpool again after he was dropped from the squad that traveled to Italy. He is expected to be available for the game with Brighton this weekend before he heads for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Slot discussed the situation when he faced the media on Monday, stating: “I am a firm believer that there is always a possibility to return for a player.
"When I don’t play someone usually players don’t like the manager that much but he was really respectful to the staff and manager, his teammates and he trained very hard so it was a surprise to me when I heard the comments he gave.
"But it is not the first or last time a player who doesn’t play says something similar to what he did. But my reaction to that is clear and that’s why he is not here tonight.”
