Thierry Henry could do nothing but massage Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards as the duo clashed over Mohamed Salah.
On Saturday, Salah hit out at Liverpool and Arne Slot after being named on the bench for the third time in a row against Leeds, which ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Speaking to reporters after the game, he accused the club of "throwing him under the bus" and claimed his relationship with the head coach had broken down.
The 33-year-old also called out Carragher during his tirade, saying: “I know the club too well, I have been here many years. Tomorrow Carragher is going to go for me again and again, and that’s fine.”
Having maintained his silence on Sunday, Carragher responded to Salah on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football. He criticized the winger for what he perceived to be a calculated attack on the club and Slot.
The debate continued into Tuesday, as the UEFA Champions League continued with Liverpool facing Inter Milan. Salah was left out of the squad, and it’s unclear when he will feature for the Reds again.
On CBS’ Champions League coverage, Carragher and Richards were discussing Salah’s outburst. Richards suggested he understood Salah’s frustrations, which caught his colleague by surprise. When Carragher asked which part of the winger's frustration he understands, the former Manchester City defender said: “That his frustration, or what he’s done, not coming on in games.”
Carragher questioned which game Richards would have brought Salah on in, and he replied: “I would have put him on against Leeds when [Liverpool] needed another goal. Leeds were in the game, putting pressure, and at times, they could have been exposed on the counterattack. They know about Salah, they know his record from previous years, he can get you a goal— Yes, his form’s not been great, but I understand his frustration.”
Carragher wasn’t having it, immediately interrupting Richards as the two went back and forth over the semantics and details over who to blame and when exactly Salah could have impacted the game. As the back and forth continued, Henry tried to interrupt by raising his hand — but he was ignored.
The two continued to argue as Henry and Kate Scott simply sat there at the end of the desk. The argument then shifted to Arne Slot, with Richards incredulous over some of Carragher’s comments.
Henry, tired of being ignored, just stood up and walked behind Carragher, gently massaging the frustrated former Liverpool defender’s shoulders. He then switched up his style before moving over to Richards.
Upon finishing massaging Richards, Henry stood between the two analysts as they continued to bicker. Carragher took a swig of water to calm himself down, as Henry walked back over to Scott and said: “You started them!”
The entire clash lasted over three minutes. Carragher remains incredibly frustrated by the whole ordeal, although his mood likely improved as Liverpool snatched a win at the San Siro thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai.
