Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher have assessed the summer's major transfer activity, with the pair divided on Florian Wirtz's record-breaking move to Liverpool.
Wirtz joined the Reds earlier this summer to become their most expensive ever signing. That record was smashed again on Monday when Alexander Isak arrived from Newcastle for £125 million ($169 million), becoming the most expensive signing in Premier League history.
Carragher and Keane are also divided on Chelsea's decision to swoop for Alejandro Garnacho. The Blues secured the Argentine from Manchester United in the latter stages of the window, but Carragher remains unconvinced that the winger, whose temperament has been questioned, represents the ideal signing.
He is, however, impressed by Joao Pedro's early performances, with the forward already getting on the scoresheet for Chelsea.
Wirtz has arrived on Merseyside with a fantastic track record, with Carragher admitting: "He's obviously got quality."
Yet Carragher remains unsure whether Wirtz will fulfil his potential on Merseyside.
Both pundits were unanimous in their view that Jack Grealish's temporary switch to Everton will prove highly successful. The creative midfielder has already contributed several assists as he seeks to rejuvenate his career at Goodison Park following a challenging period at Manchester City.
Arsenal's capture of Eberechi Eze, Manchester City's new signing Tijjani Reijnders, and Manchester United's double swoop for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo all received approval despite their brief tenures at their respective clubs.
Benjamin Sesko, however, must still demonstrate his Premier League credentials, having been predominantly utilized as a substitute since his switch from RB Leipzig.
"It's not going to be easy coming into Old Trafford," said Carragher. "You know he's not been given a run of games yet."
Meanwhile, Keane expressed reservations about Tottenham's transfer activity, particularly questioning the acquisition of Mohamed Kudus from West Ham.
The north London club's substantial investment in the winger has left the Irishman unconvinced, citing the player's inconsistent output last season and suggesting he might not meet expectations.
He remarked: "Not convinced, I have to say, but it would be nice if he surprises me."
Carragher shared similar concerns, commenting: "He was hit and miss with West Ham, wasn't he? Had a really good first season, then not so great, and he's been a little bit like that this season."
