Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane in agreement on Liverpool squeezing past Arsenal

6 hours ago 18

Liverpool have been praised by Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher after both pundits emphasized how the Reds have started the season with maximum points despite being well below their peak performance levels.

The Merseyside club were handed a demanding opening fixture list and have struggled to find their rhythm, yet they remain the sole team boasting a perfect record following their victory over Arsenal.

Dominik Szoboszlai's spectacular free-kick in the dying moments secured all three points for Liverpool.

Late strikes have become a recurring theme during their campaign - Federico Chiesa found the net in the 88th minute to overcome Bournemouth on opening night.

Just over a week later, Rio Ngumoha delivered a clinical finish in the 100th minute to see off Newcastle.

Liverpool have shipped four goals across three matches, yet the Sky Sports analysts stressed how the defending champions have maintained their winning streak despite their defensive concerns.

Carragher commented: "Absolutely huge. Liverpool have nine points out of nine. They've played two really difficult games - Newcastle away and Arsenal at home. And they've been nowhere near their best. What a position they find themselves in. Get the transfer window out of the way and then come back after the international break and I'm sure we'll see a lot better from Liverpool in these next few months."

Keane was equally full of praise for the Reds as he lauded them for concealing their struggles, predominantly at the back, with none of their rivals managing to capitalise on their weaknesses as Liverpool instead ensure they get the job done whenever they take to the pitch.

He said: "We talk about Liverpool's problems in the last few games with their defending where they've given up chances, but you still have to beat them. It's the sign of a good team that you win football matches when you're not at your best. That's what champions do and that's what they've done."

Liverpool are targeting back-to-back titles for the first time in over three decades and have been ruthless in the transfer market in a bid to stay at the summit of English football.

Arne Slot spoke positively about their victory over the Gunners, who have also invested heavily.

"If you win against a team like Arsenal, who last season were such a good team and have strengthened so much, to win against them is very positive. We will know at the end of the season what it's worth."
