Jamie Carragher believes PSV defeat will tip supporters over the edge on Arne Slot

4 hours ago 5

Liverpool legend and CBS Sports pundit Jamie Carragher says the Reds' 4-1 defeat to PSV in the Champions League could tip the balance with fans who are unsure over Arne Slot's future.

The Reds boss has now lost nine of his last 12 games in charge, with Liverpool struggling for form and in desperate need of something changing. Wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid proved to be false hope, with PSV dismantling Liverpool in the second half.

"It’s not been the only rough night, has it?" Carragher said at the final whistle. "I mean, this has been like this all season. I think we said after the first game of the Champions League group stage that the result had been coming for Liverpool.

"Liverpool don’t notoriously, or historically, I should say, change managers, especially ones who won a league title. I don’t think Liverpool have ever changed a manager in their history who won a league title.

"But I think there will be a lot of supporters tonight thinking, you know, is it at that stage, yeah? And you just cannot believe you’re saying something like that when you consider what happened in the manager’s first season, which was absolutely out of this world."

"Do you think it will happen? Do you think we’ll get to that point?" host Kate Scott asked.

"No, I don’t think it will," Carragher replied. "But I think there will be a lot of people calling for it.

"This is not derailed, this is like, mega derail — there’s no train track, there’s nothing."

Liverpool travels to West Ham United next and then has Sunderland and Leeds United next week. Slot will address the media in a press conference on Thursday but insisted on Wednesday that he was only focused on improving things.

Questioned on his job security, Slot said: "No, I am not worried. My focus is on other things than worrying about my own position." He added: "I need to do better."

Liverpool.com says: Things have surely reached rock bottom now? The Reds have not lost three games in a row by three goals since 1953 and their confidence is on the floor.

We know that there are good, talented players there. So far this season, though, Slot hasn't managed to get a tune out of them.

The issues just keep mounting, with very few of them being resolved. If anything, at the moment, it feels like things are getting worse but not better.
