Arsenal booked their place in the Champions League semi-final with a 1-0 aggregate win over Sporting CP.
Jamie Carragher has backtracked on a prediction for Arsenal to win the Champions League, despite watching them make it to the semi-final of the competition. The Gunners booked their place in the final four thanks to a 1-0 aggregate win over Sporting CP.
Wednesday night’s game at the Emirates Stadium ended in a 0-0 draw, with Kai Havertz’s 91st-minute winner in the first leg of the tie proving to be the difference between the two matches.
Arsenal will now play Atletico Madrid in the semi-final of the competition, with the first leg taking place later this month. Should they get through that, then they will take on the winner of Bayern Munich vs Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

Despite previously backing Arsenal to lift the trophy for the first time, Carragher has now U-turned, explaining his concerns over Mikel Arteta’s side.
Speaking after the draw against Sporting, Carragher told CBS Sports: “I’m not sure they’ve got the quality in the attack. The game we just watched tonight, you think of the players on both teams.
“It’s not a criticism, they just don’t have those players in attack, they haven’t.
“So, that’s why I think when you get to the business end of the season, certainly in the Champions League… even though I tipped Arsenal to win it, I just don’t believe it.
“I can’t see a team winning the Champions League who don’t have a star in the front four, and they haven’t got one.”
Viktor Gyokeres started up front for Arsenal against Sporting, and was supported by Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli, although the former was forced off through injury in the second half.
In 10 Champions League appearances this season, Gyokeres has scored four times and provided one assist.
As well as the Champions League, Arsenal have the Premier League title in their sights, although they are being put under pressure by Manchester City. The Gunners travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (4.30pm kick-off) with a six-point lead over Pep Guardiola’s side, who have a game in hand.
Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of a 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth in their last Premier League outing. A win over Man City would be a huge boost in their hopes of lifting the title at the end of the season.
