Michael Carrick has been left with virtually no choice but to hand Benjamin Sesko a starting berth in Manchester United's next fixture, according to Jamie Carragher.
Sesko came off the bench to net yet another vital goal as United edged past Everton 1-0, returning to fourth place in the Premier League on Monday. That result leaves Liverpool three points off the top four.
The recruit from RB Leipzig charged the full length of the pitch before coolly converting a slick counter-attack involving fellow summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. In doing so — and with the subsequent passionate celebration — he delivered an unmistakable message to Carrick.

Carrick has deployed Mbeumo as his central forward, with Cunha operating in behind, but Sesko is hammering on the door with his current form.
"Sesko has gone over 80 yards and then finishes, you expect him to be breathing heavily and panting after it, but no, he still has the energy to really celebrate," Carragher remarked on Sky Sports.

"He's had maybe a slower start than he would have like initially, but he has been on fire of late. We were wondering whether he would start tonight, it almost feels inevitable now. He has put himself into the team."
Sesko netted just twice while under Ruben Amorim's stewardship, yet has since found his rhythm and is flourishing under Carrick, albeit predominantly from the bench. Carrick has altered his starting XI on only two occasions across his six fixtures at the helm, both enforced by injury, though Sesko is mounting a compelling case for selection.
When questioned about the forward's appetite for a starting berth, Carrick responded: "Yeah, there's a bit of that. I think it's not always as extreme as well. I think sometimes, I get why everyone's talking about it and making a bigger deal of it.
"But I've got a really good relationship with Ben. We've had some really good conversations, and he's in a really good place. And part of us is helping him take his steps in development and growing him as a player.
"Sometimes that's little steps, sometimes that's bigger steps. He's taking some huge steps recently in terms of the goals he scored and the impact, and that confidence and that belief that he's playing with now is great to see.
"We've obviously got to manage that as well. And we've got some good forwards, so it's one of those decisions that we got to try and get right.
"But I've got no problem with Ben, and he hasn't got an issue. He obviously wants to play, but I can't speak highly enough of how he's been and the work he's putting in and his attitude to come on and do what he's done again.
"I thought he's finished just with so much confidence and belief and ruthless finish, which sums up where he's at at the minute, which is great to see."
