Jamie Carragher gets his Liverpool wish after Mohamed Salah controversy

2 months ago 62

Jamie Carragher's wish was granted as Liverpool triumphed over Inter Milan without the presence of Mohamed Salah.

The 33-year-old was notably absent from Liverpool's squad for the team's Champions League journey to San Siro, following a shocking interview after the Reds' 3-3 draw with Leeds on Saturday. Salah accused the club of leaving him high and dry and claimed he had no relationship with manager Arne Slot.

Former Liverpool star Carragher delivered a fervent response to Salah's remarks on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, labelling the forward a "disgrace" and accusing him and his agent of orchestrating the situation to cause maximum disruption.

Carragher also insinuated that Salah was attempting to get Slot dismissed. Then, on Tuesday, in reaction to a social media post from Salah, Carragher confessed he hadn't wanted Liverpool to "win a game more than tonight for a long time."

And Liverpool did not disappoint Carragher, securing a 1-0 victory at Inter with Dominik Szoboszlai netting the crucial penalty. After Florian Wirtz was fouled inside the box, Szoboszlai confidently dispatched the ball past Yann Sommer from 12 yards.

Sharing his post-match thoughts, Carragher retweeted his earlier post and exclaimed: "Get in," accompanied by a flexed biceps emoji and the red love heart emoji.

In all fairness, the Reds were deserving victors against Inter. They dominated for the majority of the match, registering more shots, shots on target and a higher expected goals (xG) tally.

The result was a much-needed boost for Slot, who has been feeling the heat following Salah's interview and a run of just one win in six games.

Reflecting on the Reds' impressive victory, former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge shared his thoughts during Amazon Prime Video's coverage of the match. "He (Salah) is going to be watching at home, wishing he was here, wishing he could have helped the team.

"In the moment, there is a level of reflection, because it is so raw now, and it is so fresh, it is hard to reflect on the situation. We are in it. We have all been through ups and downs.

"I think for Mo right now, I think he wants to help the team get back to where they have been, which was at the top. I think watching what's happened, you want to be part of it. You're at home, you're sat there.

"This goes for players who are injured and players who are in this situation, the last thing you want to do is not be part of it. I think that is, of course, going to be hurting him because he knows. He loves playing for this club, I know this.

"Mo has told me, 'I love this football club. I don't want to leave this club. This is where I want to be.' He wants to be a Liverpool player, but he wants to play.

"I think they will have a conversation. I can't speak for Mo, and what he is going to do, I don't know how he is going to feel, but I think there needs to be another conversation between the manager and Mohamed Salah."
