Jamie Carragher has singled out Cody Gakpo for special praise after his performance in Liverpool’s latest meeting with Everton.
Mohamed Salah scored in what is set to be his final Merseyside derby, as Liverpool took control following a decisive moment at the back for Everton. Gakpo had earlier gone close after a well-weighted pass from Florian Wirtz, but was denied by a sharp save from Jordan Pickford. However, there was no stopping Liverpool’s opener. Everton’s Dwight McNeil was dispossessed in a dangerous area, allowing Gakpo to drive inside before threading a precise pass through to Salah, who finished clinically to put the visitors ahead.
Carragher highlighted Gakpo’s influence in attack stating it was the assist of the season. "Sometimes it is more about the assist" said Carragher at half-time. "That is the case with Gakpo. That is one of the assists of the season. Everton is far too high and that guy is never going to miss that."
