Jamie Carragher has won support from some Liverpool supporters following his criticism of Mohamed Salah after the Reds legend fell short once more on the international stage.
Salah was powerless to prevent Egypt from being eliminated in the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-0 loss to Senegal and Sadio Mane on Wednesday. The 33-year-old's wait for international silverware with his country continues.
Despite a strong individual performance from the Liverpool star, who netted four goals and registered one assist across five matches, it proved insufficient to secure a place in the final against Morocco. The loss to Senegal marks another setback in what has been a troubling campaign for the Premier League legend, whose future on Merseyside was cast into uncertainty ahead of AFCON.

His startling remarks not only resulted in his omission from the matchday squad for Liverpool's Champions League game but also drew fierce criticism from Carragher. The former Reds defender devoted an eight-minute segment on Monday Night Football to condemning Salah's comments, describing his behavior as "selfish."
While sections of the fanbase supported Salah's right to voice his opinion, given his remarkable achievements for the club, others sided with Carragher's view that the Egyptian has shown a pattern of putting himself before the team.

The Sky Sports pundit reminded Salah that he's yet to lift a major trophy with his nation and should acknowledge the crucial role his teammates play before launching into a media rant. Some supporters have suggested this validates Carragher's judgement.
In the wake of Egypt's loss, one X user posted: "Mo Salah with all his brilliance did not steer Egypt to any trophy."
Another suggested that Salah's approach has shifted toward individual accolades as he's matured, commenting: "As Salah's aged, he's gone the (Cristiano) Ronaldo route, more focused on maximising goals."
Salah has finished as runner-up in the AFCON on two occasions, and reflecting on his lack of silverware with Egypt, Carragher said: "He's the greatest player his country has ever had in Egypt.
"Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations are the most successful nation. Mo Salah has never won the AFCON.
"That isn't me trying to put him down as a player, but what it tells him and his agent is that it's not about an individual.
"No matter how good a player you are, you need help from your teammates, your manager and fans. It's really important he remembers that."
Salah is expected to return to Liverpool between January 19 and 20 following Egypt's third-place playoff against Nigeria on Saturday.
