Jamie Carragher highlights area Arsenal must upgrade in summer transfer window

Jamie Carragher has been speaking about Arsenal's season so far

Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal still lack superstar attackers - despite their nine-point gap at the top of the Premier League.

The Sky Sports pundit claims that while the Gunners are evidently a top team, in his view, they still lack world-class talent at the top end of the pitch.

Carragher said when analysing Mikel Arteta's side on The Overlap: "I don’t think it will affect the league because Arsenal have got such a big gap.

"But my thing with Arsenal now – and you could probably say this with every team in the Premier League – is there’s not enough special players.

"Arsenal are the best team in the league and have an amazing record but I still look at the attack and think it’s only okay.

"There’s no star player and sometimes you need that player when you’re not playing well like they wasn’t in the cup final.

"I don’t think Arsenal have enough special players in attack and that would worry me a bit for the Champions League.

"I thought two years ago that [Bukayo] Saka and [Martin] Odegaard were going to be the real deal and be like [Mohamed] Salah and [Kevin] De Bruyne. They were nearly there.

"Arsenal are probably going to win the league but if they do I don’t think any of the attacking players will think they’ve had an amazing season. It’s just not clicked."

Bukayo Saka has mustered nine goals in all competitions so far this season but he has been criticised as he's lacked consistency this term.

Arsenal still remain the top-flight's highest scorers (61) and there's a sense their attack could get even better in the summer when they look to strengthen Arteta's squad.

The Gunners are expected to explore the signing of a new left-winger amid links with Paris Saint-Germain's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

In order to strengthen their left flank, Arsenal would likely have to sell one of Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard.

There are also doubts over the future of striker Gabriel Jesus, who has been linked with a return to Brazil with Palmeiras and Flamengo.

Arsenal have already surpassed the 100-goal mark in all competitions this season and they also boast the best defensive record in the Premier League this term.
