Jamie Carragher names five stars who should leave Chelsea in angry foul-mouthed rant

Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea could be forced to sell a group of their key players should the Blues continue failing to compete for the sport's biggest honours

Jamie Carragher has named five Chelsea stars that he believes could look to leave the club if the Blues continue to fail competing for football's biggest prizes.

It is now mathematically impossible for Chelsea to win the Premier League title this season, with the Blues 22 points (with 21 still to play for) behind leaders Arsenal. Liam Rosenior's side were also dumped out of the Champions League last week, with reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain putting them to the sword over the course of two legs.

Chelsea are now hoping to qualify for the Champions League through placing in the top five, while they are in the quarter-finals of this season's FA Cup as well. Carragher, though, reckons unless the west Londoners can find a way to compete for the Premier League and Champions League in the near future, then it could spell the end for a few key players at Stamford Bridge.

"Chelsea were always winning, they were always in finals and collecting trophies," said Carragher on The Overlap. "Now it's about building... building for what? This generation of fans expect to win. They are not into this building for the future.

"I can't believe the Enzo Fernandez stuff. I think Chelsea have got five or six really brilliant players, really good. Reece James, Moises Caicedo, Fernandez, [Cole] Palmer, Joao Pedro up front. But eventually, they will go, 'what the f*** is this? I should be playing for a team going for the Champions League'. You can't keep building."

Rosenior was asked something similar during his pre-Everton press conference last week, with the possibility of key players leaving should the Blues fail to secure a place among Europe's elite next season. The Chelsea head coach, however, does not believe that will be the case.

"One of the things, the way that we manage as staff, not just myself, but my assistants, in two-and-a-half months... I have a very, very good relationship with the players because we speak all the time," said Rosenior. "Not just about football, or the situation with their contracts, but about their life, with their kids, how their kids are, how school is.

"I have a very, very close relationship with Enzo [Fernandez] and with the other players. In terms of contracts and where they want to be, there's not one player at this club since I've been here that has said he doesn't want to be here in the summer.

"In fact, the conversations are more about how we improve, what we can do as a group to improve, what we need to do to win in this moment. And that's where we are at the moment."

When asked if they want to stay, Rosenior simply said: "They love it here."
