Jamie Carragher has delivered a scathing assessment of Tottenham amid concerns over the team's Premier League survival, insisting the club is "not too big or good" to suffer relegation and that such a fate would be the most "embarrassing" in top-flight history.
Spurs are enduring another terrible domestic season, having finished 17th last term, and are now only two places and five points clear of the drop zone. Thomas Frank arrived as head coach last summer but took the blame for the team's struggles and lost his position earlier this month.
Igor Tudor has now been brought in on a deal running until the end of the campaign with the sole objective of preserving Tottenham's Premier League status — a scenario that would have seemed unthinkable at the season's outset.

"If they drop into the Championship, it would be the most shocking descent of the Premier League era, and the most embarrassing for a club of such wealth and stature since Denis Law's back-heel for Manchester City sent Manchester United into the old Second Division in 1974," Carragher wrote in The Telegraph.
"Analyzing the quality of the squad Igor Tudor leads for the first time in this weekend's North London Derby, the scale of the challenge is obvious.

"The concern is the prolonged dip under his two immediate predecessors, and how soon that can be reversed. There is no escaping the shadow of the dreaded 'R word' at Spurs. Relegation is possible.
"Add 'ridiculous' or 'reprehensible' and plain 'rubbish' to the valid descriptions of their record over the past 27 months, which has led them to this perilous situation."
Tottenham's nightmare situation can be traced back to the summer of 2023, when Ange Postecoglou became the club's manager and superstar striker Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich.
Postecoglou enjoyed a solid first season at Spurs, leading them to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League. Yet Tottenham struggled the following season, picking up just 38 points in the top-flight to finish 17th in the table.
The Australian coach was retained as manager until the end of the season due to Tottenham's form in Europe. His players went on to beat Manchester United in the Europa League final, securing the London club's first major trophy since 2008.
Postecoglou was fired within weeks of that victory and replaced by Frank. Soccer pundits expected Tottenham's 17th-placed finish to be a one-off, but the team has struggled again this season.
Relegation was not a possibility for Tottenham last year, despite the team's position in the table. That's because 26 points were enough to survive last season, with the Spurs getting 38.
But this season, 40 or more points might be needed to stay up. West Ham, the team currently in 18th, already has 24 points, with 12 games still to play.
