Jamie Donley had an excellent season at Leyton Orient, but the Tottenham starlet has not been given the chance to replicate his performances at Stoke City.
There was a lot of excitement about Jamie Donley after his spell at Leyton Orient last season. Tottenham Hotspur’s London neighbours were just one game away from winning promotion to the Championship, but fell short against Charlton Athletic.
With injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, it was thought that Donley might remain at Spurs to fight for his place under Thomas Frank.
However, the attacking midfielder was loaned out to Stoke City along with Ashely Phillips, but the move has not gone to plan.
Tottenham’s Jamie Donley has not been given a chance at Stoke City
Donley started both of Stoke’s Carabao Cup matches, but he is yet to be named in the team’s starting lineup in the Championship.
In fact, Donley’s has only spent 49 minutes on the pitch in total in the league. He was finally brought off the bench during Stoke’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn last weekend after six consecutive games as an unused substitute.
This is despite the fact Donley got an assist in his very first game at the Potters when he came on with 16 minutes left to play against Derby County.
Tottenham should recall Donley from his loan move
Stoke may be flying high in the Championship, but there is no point keeping Donley there when he is not playing. It is actually possible that he would have been given more minutes so far this season had he stayed at Tottenham.
Will Lankshear is selected to start every time Oxford United play so perhaps Donley needs a January loan move to a team lower in the table. There is simply no point keeping him at the Bet365 Stadium if he is going to sit on the sidelines every weekend.
