Jarell Quansah has admitted he has rediscovered his passion for football following his departure from Liverpool. The 23-year-old completed his Anfield exit in July, putting pen to paper at Bayer Leverkusen.

Quansah joined the Reds at the age of five, going on to skipper various youth sides before embarking on a loan stint at Bristol Rovers in 2023. On his return, the defender swiftly became a consideration within Jurgen Klopp's first-team plans.

Despite featuring in the 2024 Carabao Cup final victory, Quansah found himself relegated to third or fourth choice center-back under Arne Slot following Klopp's departure. The Dutch head coach tended to deploy Quansah primarily in cup fixtures, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté proving virtually undroppable in the more prominent encounters.

He departed Merseyside in July in pursuit of greater opportunities at Bayer Leverkusen, committing to a five-year deal in a $40.5 million transfer. Quansah has now opened up on his switch to the Bundesliga.

Speaking to the Bundesliga's official website, Quansah said when asked about his move: "I've really loved it, to be honest. It's been refreshing for me.

"I've started loving football again. Being able to play week in, week out against some of the best teams in the world. Showing what I'm capable of, what I can give to this team and to the fans as well. I've really enjoyed it so far, but it's not over yet. We've got an important month ahead of us.

"It's never easy moving to a different country. I think coming from the pressure of being at Liverpool, it's not easy to come away from such a big club and try to build your own career off the back of being at one place for 17 years. It's never easy, but I'm happy it's gone well so far.

"We hoped at the start of the season to be in a position where we're fighting for something, fighting for cups and obviously for Champions League qualification.

"It's important for the club and the fans that we're playing in really important competitions next season. In the DFB Cup, it'd be great if we could get to the final and try our best to win it."

Quansah has been flourishing in Germany, establishing himself as a cornerstone of Leverkusen's defensive line and securing his first England cap. The promising defender also has his sights set on a place at the 2026 World Cup.

When quizzed on his prospects of breaking into Thomas Tuchel's squad, the defender responded: "Yeah, of course. I'm just focusing on what I do here, though. That's all that matters at the moment. I've got to just keep playing well for Leverkusen, and hopefully that will put me in good stead for the summer.

"He [Tuchel] is really good. He's a breath of fresh air we needed in the England group as well, just sort of giving us something different tactically. You saw the qualifying campaign we've had with him.

"It's been perfect - we didn't concede a goal and we won every game. It's just about bringing that momentum into the tournament now. It'd be a privilege if I was able to be a part of that as well."
