Jarrod Bowen believes there is a “real buzz” back at West Ham following Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival.
Nuno was appointed as head coach on Saturday, just hours after Graham Potter was sacked following the Hammers’ dreadful start to the season, with four defeats in five matches leaving them in the Premier League relegation zone.
They remain 19th but showed their battling qualities by coming from behind to draw 1-1 at Everton on Monday thanks to a deflected strike from Bowen, who has been encouraged by Nuno’s input so far.
“There’s a real buzz about the place,” the West Ham captain said. “The first two days (Nuno has been in charge), I’ve been so impressed with him and the way he manages himself.
“He knows what he wants from the team and we know what he demands. The players have all bought into that and the performance we put in was a credit to the manager.”
Bowen is confident more preparation time with Nuno, the former Wolves, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest boss, this week will put them on an even better footing ahead of Saturday’s trip to Arsenal.
“We’re disappointed we didn’t win the game but we’ll take a point and go to Arsenal at the weekend, where we’ve had success in recent years,” Bowen added. “It’s not going to be easy because they’re pushing for the title but we’ve got a few more days with the new gaffer on the training ground.
“I’m really excited to work with him, I’ve played against his sides in the Premier League and they’re always difficult sides.”
The point moved Everton up into the top half of the table and they now turn their attention to Sunday’s visit of Crystal Palace, who are flying high in third after defeating Liverpool at the weekend.
The Toffees will be without midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, their £24million summer signing from Chelsea, after he received his fifth booking of the season, a decision which angered boss David Moyes.
“I think all the managers will be saying (about bad refereeing decisions) at the moment,” Moyes said. “But I thought the booking for Dewsbury-Hall was a really shabby decision. It’s a really poor decision, it’s not a free-kick, never mind anything else. I can’t believe he’s got a yellow card for it. It’s quite ridiculous.
“He’s played really, really well. He’s been a great signing and started the season really well for us – getting goals and creating goals. He makes us play much better. We’ll miss him.”
