Liverpool supporters have been left astounded by new recruit Jeremie Frimpong, after witnessing his blistering speed during the team's 5-0 preseason victory over Stoke City.
Frimpong was brought to Liverpool for a fee of around £30 million ($40.4M) this summer, stepping in as a direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made a move to Real Madrid for approximately £10M ($13.5M).
Alexander-Arnold leaves big boots to fill, having risen through the academy ranks and contributed to the club's two Premier League titles and Champions League success, becoming one of the squad's key players with 354 appearances under his belt.
However, Frimpong seems to have allayed fans' concerns with his impressive performance against the Potters, showcasing his potential threat on the wings with his remarkable pace.
Darwin Nunez bagged a hat-trick during the behind-closed-doors friendly at Liverpool's AXA training centre, while record signing Florian Wirtz contributed with two assists.
But it was Frimpong who dominated much of the post-match chatter on social media, with fans buzzing about his explosive speed. Interestingly, he started on the wing for this match, leading some supporters to suggest he could step into Mohamed Salah's shoes when the Egyptian departs for AFCON later this year.
One social media post read: "Frimpong played RW and was an absolute weapon, combining with Conor Bradley many times. He's definitely going to be Salah's backup when Salah goes to AFCON.
One fan exclaimed: "Bro Jeremie Frimpong is ridiculously quick nobody is catching this guy wtf. "
Another supporter was utterly impressed with Frimpong, commenting: "I know it's only Stoke in preseason but Frimpong in these clips..."
"Bradley x Frimpong on the pitch at the same time," read another tweet. "What is Arne Slot cooking?"
Frimpong also featured in half of Liverpool's 3-1 friendly victory over Preston last week. He's regarded as one of the most thrilling right-sided talents in Europe after playing a key role in Bayer Leverkusen clinching their first-ever Bundesliga title in 2024.
The former Manchester City academy star notched up five goals and provided eight assists across 48 matches in all competitions last term. He racked up a total of 190 appearances for Leverkusen since his transfer from Celtic in 2020.
