The French center-back is set to sign for Liverpool on deadline day after the Reds agreed a fee with Rennes at the end of last week. Jacquet is set to join ahead of the 2026/27 season

Jeremy Jacquet is set to undergo his Liverpool medical on Monday
Liverpool signing Jeremy Jacquet is set to arrive on Merseyside on Monday to complete his medical ahead of his summer transfer to the Reds.
A fee of £55 million ($75M), plus an additional £5M ($7M), has been agreed with Rennes for the center-back’s transfer, with the deal deferred until the start of the 2026/27 campaign.
Jacquet has agreed a contract that will run until 2031, and his arrival is in keeping with Liverpool’s transfer policy of targeting young defenders, who can be mainstays in the team for years to come. That was seen with the summer acquisition of Giovanni Leoni, while Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are nearing a combined 24 years of service.

Although the Reds are clear admirers of the 25-year-old, who nearly joined last summer, it was deemed that the move was not good value for money.
That is not the case for Jacquet, whose signing is expected to be announced on deadline day.

The Frenchman has started 18 of Rennes' Ligue 1 matches this season, missing two due to suspension.
He had attracted interest from Chelsea this month and has previously been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal.
The decision to delay Jacquet’s arrival until the summer does not address the Reds' immediate issues in defense.
Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo all played in the back four across Liverpool’s two games last week, given the dearth of options in that area.

Liverpool tried, and failed, to sign Lutsharel Geertruida ahead of the window shutting. However, Sunderland’s inability to find a replacement for the former Feyenoord man, who is on loan from RB Leipzig, meant the deal was scuppered.
The Dutchman is well known by Arne Slot and is comfortable operating at right-back and in the middle.
As for Jacquet, the 20-year-old’s transfer comes amid the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Konate and Gomez this summer.
Both could leave, and with Van Dijk entering the final year of his contract, and Leoni recovering from a long-term injury, there could be further additions before next season.
Jacquet has been capped by France at various youth levels and has an outside chance of being named in Didier Deschamps’ senior squad for the World Cup this summer.
