Liverpool will sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet this summer for a fee that could reach $83 million (£60 million) including add-ons, but the center-back could miss the remainder of the campaign through injury.
Just days after his transfer move to Liverpool was agreed, Jacquet went down with a shoulder injury. This week, his current club confirmed that he would need an operation to fix it.
"Jeremy Jacquet is set to undergo surgery," an official statement released on Monday read. "On the pitch against Lens on February 7th, Jeremy Jacquet was forced to leave the game early due to a left shoulder injury.

Jacquet, 20, is not expected to play again this season because of the painful setback, so he might have played his final game for Ligue 1 side Rennes.
But according to The Athletic, the player is confident that he will be back for pre-season. He will link up with Liverpool once the campaign comes to an end.

Liverpool is set to return to the United States this summer as part of its preparations for the 2026/27 season. The country is a joint host for the World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada.
Arne Slot's side is set to play against Sunderland, Leeds and Wrexham while it is on tour there. Liverpool will visit the U.S. a couple of weeks after the World Cup final is held at MetLife Stadium.
The Reds will visit Nashville, New York and Chicago on their trip Stateside. Their first game, against Sunderland, will be at Nashville’s GEODIS Park on July 25.

They will then travel to New York's Yankee Stadium to face Wrexham on July 29. The third and final stop will be in Chicago, where Slot's men will take on Leeds at Soldier Field on August 2.
The game with the biggest audience could be Wrexham. The Welsh club, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, is a big hit in the U.S. thanks to its documentary series, which has brought a new fan base to the Welsh side.
It is currently sixth in the Championship and could be promoted to the Premier League this season, most likely via the playoffs.
It is nine points off the automatic promotion places as things stand in the second tier. Coventry and Middlesbrough occupy the top two places at the moment.
