Jeremy Jacquet will have plenty of time to decide on his shirt number before he officially becomes a Liverpool player.

The defender is set to join the Reds in the summer after a $82-million deal (£60M) was agreed with Rennes, with Jacquet receiving a five-year deal after completing his medical on Merseyside on deadline day.

The 20-year-old will spend the rest of the season back in Ligue 1 as Rennes chases a place in Europe for next season, before reporting for duty with Liverpool ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, when he will of course be given his shirt number.

According to Transfermarkt, Jacquet has worn six different numbers during his career, coming through the ranks at Rennes while also spending time on loan at Clermont Foot.

During that time, he has worn the numbers 4, 5, 12, 13, 15 and 97. Of those, 5 and 97 appear to be his most regular choices — he wore the number 97 in Rennes’ most recent game, a 4-0 defeat to Monaco on Saturday.

In fact, 97 appears to be his preferred choice, with Jacquet’s Instagram handle reading @j.jacquet97. Unsurprisingly, that number is available at Liverpool, having been previously worn by goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga, who left the club last year.

The number five could also become available by the time Jacquet makes his move official. It is currently worn by Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires in the summer, and with no sign of an extension at the moment, the Frenchman could be on his way out.

Of the other numbers he has worn, four is taken by Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, 12 is sported by Conor Bradley, while Giovanni Leoni holds the number 15, although 13 is available.

Other numbers currently on offer at Anfield are 16, 21, 23, 24, 27 and 29. The number 26 also looks likely to become available, with Andy Robertson’s contract also expiring in the summer.

There are plenty of options in the 30s, with Jeremie Frimpong (30) and Ryan Gravenberch (38) the only players in that range. Meanwhile, Armin Pecsi (41), Trey Nyoni (42), Stefan Bajcetic (43), Rhys Williams (46), Calvin Ramsay (47) and Kaide Gordon (49) have all claimed numbers in the 40s.

The number 19 is not taken by a current member of the squad, although it was last used by Harvey Elliott, whose future is still uncertain as his move to Aston Villa looks unlikely to be made permanent. Elsewhere, the number 20 has of course been retired following the death of Diogo Jota.
