Journalist names seven midfielders Tottenham are looking at for next summer transfer

Tottenham have already landed Mohammed Kudus this summer transfer window, but the club’s pursuit of reinforcements is far from over, with Kobbie Mainoo, Joao Palhinha and several others now in the frame.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown some ambition in the summer market, having completed the signing of four players thus far.

Mohammed Kudus‘ arrival stands out as the biggest of the lot, with Tottenham splashing £55 million on the former West Ham United man, making him their fourth-most expensive signing to date.

Spurs, however, have not made any further additions since they wrapped up a deal for the Ghana international, despite reports suggesting that the club remain very much in the market for midfielders.

Tottenham target Kobbie Mainoo and Joao Palhinha in midfield overhaul

Journalist Dean Jones, writing for Flashscore, has now revealed that Tottenham are chasing Kobbie Mainoo, Joao Palhinha, and five other players as they look to revamp their midfield options.

Mainoo is a name that has surfaced repeatedly in recent weeks, with Tottenham said to be closely monitoring Mainoo situation, although nothing concrete has taken place between the two clubs.

It is understood that talks remain in the early stages, and Mainoo has merely been discussed internally at this point, with Tottenham weighing up whether or not to formalise their interest in the 20-year-old midfielder.

Manchester United are not actively looking to sell Mainoo, but Tottenham are aware that the Red Devils’ stance could shift if a significant offer arrives.

Spurs midfield shortlist includes Gibbs-White, Gomes and Baleba

The journalist further explains that Tottenham’s pursuit of Joao Palhinha is more advanced. It is claimed that Spurs have been informed that Bayern Munich would prefer a permanent transfer over a loan deal for the Portugal international.

While other Premier League clubs are reportedly targeting a short-term move for the 30-year-old, this preference from Bayern could give Tottenham an edge in negotiations.

Morgan Gibbs-White is another name under consideration. Tottenham are believed to hold the Nottingham Forest midfielder in high regard, but after paying his release clause, Spurs have been forced to wait as Forest pursue legal action over the nature of the bid.

Gibbs-White has since travelled with Forest for their pre-season tour in Portugal, which may suggest a move is not imminent.

Tottenham are also said to have looked at Joao Gomes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba. However, both transfers appear complicated, with neither club willing to entertain offers for their midfield talents at this stage.

Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz has also been discussed behind the scenes, though there is nothing concrete developing there just yet. Meanwhile, Adam Wharton is understood to be Tottenham’s dream signing in this area of the pitch, but Crystal Palace’s valuation may prove to be a stumbling block.
