Journalist provides update on Tottenham decision over Mikey Moore’s future at Rangers

Tottenham Hotspur could be forced into a key decision regarding Mikey Moore’s future, with fresh doubts emerging over his loan spell at Rangers.

Mikey Moore’s loan move away from Tottenham Hotspur has not quite gone according to plan, with the teenager yet to make much of an impression at Rangers.

The highly rated winger has featured ten times for the Glasgow side but is still searching for his first goal contribution, as he and his teammates continue to find their rhythm in what has been a disjointed start to the campaign.

Rangers have since parted ways with Russell Martin and will be hoping for a turnaround under new management, with the Scottish club currently languishing in eighth place in the league table.

While both Rangers and Moore struggle to find form, talks surrounding a potential recall have begun to surface, and journalist Dean Jones has shed light on what he knows about the situation.

“There was a good feeling about Moore making the move to Rangers but it has been difficult for him to shine on the pitch during a period of crisis and revolt,” Jones told TEAMtalk.

“It is still a huge learning experience for him and I know there remains hope that he experiences more positive times, but they have to make sure this next phase under a new manager is helpful to him.

“There have been a fair few people questioning up there whether he is the right fit for them, but that probably comes with the fact that he is still so young and Rangers fans feel they are developing another club’s player – and in times of crisis you want to have your own players digging in and getting the side out of trouble.

“He will be learning a lot about the pressures of top-level football and Spurs are in touch with him throughout to see how he is coping with the situation.

“There have been some murmurs about whether they should look into bringing him back. The club are trying their best to make sure he has a future pathway into the team at Spurs, so we will have to see what happens with the next Rangers manager before understanding what can happen to keep this stage of his career moving forwards.”

Spurs are monitoring Moore’s progress closely

Tottenham did include a recall clause in Mikey Moore’s loan deal, and the north London club could yet activate that if his situation at Rangers does not improve.

Reports have also indicated that Moore is not short of suitors, with several Championship clubs said to be keeping tabs on his situation ahead of the January window.

The 18-year-old is clearly gifted and, having burst onto the scene under Ange Postecoglou last season, he now faces one of the first real challenges of his young career – a spell that will test his resilience and determination. Tottenham, for their part, are keeping a close eye on how he handles it.
