Journalist Pete O’Rourke has poured cold water over suggestions that one experienced Tottenham man would be allowed to leave the club mid-season.
Thomas Frank has made a solid start to his time as Spurs boss, particularly considering that Tottenham have had to deal with more than their fair share of injuries so far this campaign.
The Dane has not been able to call on the services of the club’s deadline day signing, but that is soon about to change, with Randal Kolo Muani now expected to be available for the clash against Aston Villa.
What made the Frenchman’s injury even more untimely is the fact that Dominic Solanke has also been on the treatment table, with Spurs fans still waiting for confirmation on when the club’s record signing will be available.
Tottenham will not listen to offers for Richarlison in January
The injuries to Solanke and Kolo Muani have meant that Richarlison has been the main man leading the line for Frank’s side so far this season.
However, the Brazilian’s form has tailed off after a good start to the season, and it has been reported that Tottenham could cash in on Richarlison in January, even though he has made 11 appearances so far.
This has now been rubbished by journalist Pete O’Rourke, who suggested that Spurs will not entertain offers for the 28-year-old mid-season.
When asked if the former Everton man could leave Tottenham in January, O’Rourke told Football Insider: “I don’t see any move in January. I think he’s got a key role to play for Tottenham under Thomas Frank this season. We’ve seen that already.
“He has been the preferred starter in that number nine role. Obviously, Solanke’s been injured as well, so he’s not maybe been available as much as he could have been.
“But Richarlison seems to be enjoying his football under Thomas Frank, three goals and one assist in seven Premier League games. I don’t imagine Tottenham would encourage any move for Richarlison midway through the season.”
Richarlison’s international form will concern Spurs fans
The striker has not just been struggling for Tottenham of late but has also not impressed in his international outings.
The Brazilian forward made two substitute appearances for the Selecao across the international break and missed a big chance on Tuesday as Carlo Ancelotti’s men lost to Japan.
There are now calls for Richarlison to be dropped from the Brazilian national team, with the striker having a point to prove on his return to N17.
