Julian Alvarez Sends Blunt Transfer Message to PSG, Barcelona

PSG manager Luis Enrique has been flexible with the No. 9 position, often not using a prototypical striker as Ousmane Dembélé played that role as the team marched to winning the treble last season, including the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy.

The Parisians do have Gonçalo Ramos, who can play as a striker. However, the Portugal international often comes off the bench for PSG, so Enrique could potentially pursue a striker who fits the mold he wants in the future.

In 2024, Enrique and PSG had their eyes on a striker who potentially could fit the mold that the Spanish want in a No. 9. The Ligue 1 side had their eye on Julián Álvarez, who would eventually join Atlético de Madrid.

While speaking to France Football, the Argentine was asked about the possibility of playing for PSG or Barcelona in the future.

“Do I plan to play for PSG or Barcelona in the coming years? Honestly, I don’t know,” Álvarez said. “I see what’s being said on social media… In Spain, there’s a lot of talk about me and Barcelona. When I signed with Atletico last year, there was also a lot of talk about Paris.

“It’s true, there were discussions between PSG officials and my agent—they showed interest in signing me—but it didn’t happen. For now, I’m focused on Atletico. We’ll take stock at the end of the season.”

Unless the Spanish team is open to selling or the player forces a move away, he’ll be with Atlético de Madrid for the foreseeable future. The player is under contract until 2030, giving the club all the leverage in any transfer talks for the Argentine.
