Jurgen Klopp discusses Liverpool, Arne Slot and Man Utd offer in stunning tell-all interview

2 weeks ago 11

Jurgen Klopp is set to reveal more details about his exit from Liverpool - including his relationship with FSG chief Michael Edwards - in an upcoming tell-all interview.

The 58-year-old left Liverpool last year after almost nine years in charge at Anfield. During his time on Merseyside, he transformed the club’s fortunes, taking it from mid-table obscurity to become one of England’s dominant forces again, having won the Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup during his reign, among other trophies.

Klopp announced his decision to depart the club in January 2024, having admitted he was "running out of energy." Arne Slot would be appointed as his successor, with the Dutchman going on to win the league title in his first season in charge with a team that had been largely sculpted by his predecessor.

Following a lengthy break, Klopp took up a role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer at the start of 2025 and has repeatedly suggested that he has no desire to return to management.

He returned to Anfield for the first time since his Liverpool exit in May to see his old side lift the Premier League title.

Now, the German is set to reveal more about his decision to step away from Liverpool. Steven Bartlett has announced that he has interviewed Klopp for his 'The Diary Of A CEO' podcast, which is due to be released next week.

"Jurgen Klopp is a legend - not just of Liverpool, but of football itself," Bartlett posted on social media.

"I spent 3 hours with him this week talking about his incredible journey on The Diary Of A CEO… and I really hope you enjoy it.

"It’ll certainly make you respect this man even more and respect 'the Liverpool way' - regardless of who you support."

Bartlett also revealed some of the topics that were discussed in the interview, including “what really happened behind the scenes that encourage [sic] him to leave.”

His relationship with former Liverpool sporting director and now FSG’s CEO of Football Edwards is also discussed. Edwards left Liverpool back in 2021, only to return in his role with the club’s owners after Klopp’s decision to step down had been confirmed.

Among the other topics discussed were why Darwin Nunez became angry at Klopp toward the end of his final season, his thoughts on Liverpool’s recent record-breaking transfer window, and why he turned down a job offer from Manchester United.

“As a United fan, it was hard to hear his perspective on why he didn't believe in Manchester United's strategy when they approached him to be their manager - to me it explains why we've struggled for the last decade!” Bartlett added in a reply.

Klopp also spoke about Diogo Jota following the former Liverpool forward’s death earlier this year, with Bartlett describing his tribute as "incredible."

The interview is due to be released on Monday, October 20, with Bartlett revealing that Liverpool fans and legends - including Jamie Carragher and Jordan Henderson - had also contributed their thoughts and questions.
