Jurgen Klopp has made thoughts clear on replacing Igor Tudor as new Tottenham manager

Igor Tudor has lost his first three games as Tottenham Hotspur manager to prompt questions about his future

Should Tottenham Hotspur opt to part company with Igor Tudor mere weeks into his reign, a number of names are likely to be floated. Former Spurs chairman Alan Sugar even put Jurgen Klopp forward as a potential candidate before Tudor's arrival, but the German effectively dismissed ever joining Spurs when he announced his departure from Liverpool.

The new manager's record of three defeats in as many games has sparked suggestions Spurs might terminate their arrangement with the Croatian before the summer. Arsenal, Fulham and most recently Crystal Palace have emerged victorious against Tudor's side to leave them just a point outside the relegation zone.

The club are without a win in 11 league outings, with Thomas Frank dismissed when that sequence reached eight. Lord Sugar was advocating for the club to pursue Klopp as far back as December, when Frank had the team in mid-table, with matters only deteriorating since then.

"With the massive fortune of the Lewis family it would be a win win situation if they hired Jurgen Klopp in January," Sugar wrote on social media after a 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest. "Loads of money for players and a great manager. Who agrees?"

There has been no suggestion from Klopp that he has reconsidered his stance on a return to the dugout since departing Liverpool. He announced his Anfield exit in January 2024, remaining in charge until May that year but making his intentions clear to take an extended break from management.

"What I know definitely – I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent," Klopp said when announcing he would step down. "That's not possible. My love for this club, my respect for the people is too big.

"I couldn't. I couldn't for a second think about it. There's no chance. This is part of my life, we are part of the family, we feel home here. There's no chance to do that. But all the rest, will I ever work again? Of course, I know myself, I cannot just sit around.

"I will find something else maybe to do. But I will not manage a club or a country at least for a year, that's not possible, I cannot do that and I don't want to. That's all."

Klopp has served as Red Bull's global head of soccer since January 2025. There has been no indication that he intends to depart the organisation, with Red Bull themselves indicating they have been happy with his work, yet he appeared to leave the door ajar for another stint at Liverpool during an appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast in October.

"I said I would never coach a different team in England," he said. "So that means if [I returned to the Premier League] then it's Liverpool. Yeah, theoretically it's possible."

At the time, he was candid about not missing management, though he conceded that his feelings could shift further down the line. "I'm 58. From your perspective that might be old, but from other perspectives, it's not that old," he added.

"That means I could make a decision in a few years. I don't know. Do I have to make a decision today? I will not coach again, but thank God I do not have to do that, I can just see what the future brings."
