Liverpool's hopes of progressing in the Champions League took a huge blow on Wednesday after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's inspired display for Paris Saint-Germain saw the Reds beaten 2-0 at the Parc des Princes.

The Georgian forward scored the second of PSG's two goals, dancing through the Liverpool defense before firing home past Giorgi Mamardashvilli. Come the end of the match in the French capital, Kvaratskhelia was named Player of the Match, with Liverpool lucky to have lost to the defending European Champions by a margin of two goals only.

And following his impressive display against the Reds, comments made by former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp have resurfaced. It comes after it was claimed that Arne Slot had been thrown under the bus by some of his senior players.

Speaking about Kvaratskhelia when he played for Napoli, Klopp praised the Georgian despite his side falling 2-0 to the Reds in the Champions League.

"He has speed, he is cheeky, he goes inside, he can go outside, that makes it always really difficult," said Klopp.

"A good player and I thought Trent [Alexander-Arnold] played a really good game against him, he was really on fire, he was really in, didn’t get frustrated by one or two situations where he was second-best, stayed in the game and I liked Trent’s game tonight."

Before joining PSG from Napoli in January last year for $81 million, Liverpool had been linked to Kvaratskhelia.

The Reds admired the Georgian, but there was never any direct contact about a possible deal, in part because of the price he would have cost during the season.

In the end, they ended up sticking with Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota as their options on the left wing, with Liverpool ending the 2024/25 season as Premier League champions.

However, if they had their time again, there is every chance they would have sanctioned a move for Kvaratskhelia, who is one of the best wingers in the world.

Comfortable playing off both wings, Kvaratskhelia is a dynamic, pacy attacker. With Gakpo's performances having dropped off significantly this season, Diaz having left Anfield for Bayern Munich, and Jota having sadly passed away, the Reds could do with him in their squad.

They are also parting ways with Mohamed Salah, too, meaning this summer, just a year after spending huge sums on Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Alexander Isak, Liverpool needs to add more depth to their attack, especially given Rio Ngumoha's inexperience despite his talent.
