Jurgen Klopp reached telling verdict on Man Utd transfer target Benjamin Sesko

3 weeks ago 64

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hailed reported Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko as a "ridiculous" talent possessing an "incredible skillset" as the striker remains linked with a potential move to Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old has been connected with a switch to the Red Devils over the weekend, with The Athletic reporting that United has "kept tabs on" the forward for more than six years.

Nevertheless, at present, it is suggested that the Slovenian international is not the "subject of serious attention" from Ruben Amorim's club, who is searching for a striker after failing to land Liam Delap and seeing rumors surrounding Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres amount to nothing. Ekitike is on the verge of joining Liverpool after a deal was agreed with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Since joining Red Bull's multi-club structure in 2019, Sesko has flourished and cemented himself as one of Europe's most promising young attackers.

In 2023, following four seasons at Red Bull Salzburg, the 22-year-old moved to RB Leipzig, having turned down United when the proposed switch was revealed a year prior, while his representative has since made several trips to Old Trafford and Carrington.

During his time with the Bundesliga club, Sesko has netted 27 goals across 64 league outings in Germany, leading to consistent speculation about a Premier League move.

Earlier this year, former Liverpool boss Klopp, who has since taken up the role of Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, lavished praise on Sesko.

"I've actually known him for a while, I knew him already when he was at Salzburg. I think we played a friendly game here when he was very, very young," recalled Klopp in January.

"I was really impressed, I thought, 'Where do they get all these players? Ridiculous.'

"I have no plans with him, just to make that clear.

"Don't get it wrong, I will not show up in training and tell them what to do.

"Our plan, and I don't have to ask Marco Rose what his plan is with him [Sesko], I know it... he wants to help him score as many goals as possible.

"He has space for improvement, space for development, incredible skillset, incredible potential, so I'm happy that we have him."

Sesko's commitment to Leipzig is solidified with a contract running until 2029, following an extension last summer.
