Jay Spearing praised the brilliance of Jurgen Klopp after netting a stunning strike for Liverpool Legends against Borussia Dortmund Legends. A team of former Reds stars was held to a 2-2 draw by a side of Dortmund Legends at Anfield on Saturday.

The match was held in support of the LFC Foundation and also marked Jurgen Klopp's return to Anfield for the first time since the Reds secured the Premier League title last season. Spearing disclosed that the German left his side, managed by Sir Kenny Dalglish, feeling a million dollars before kick-off.

He said: "He's been incredible. I think since he's come back, I was very fortunate enough for the first 18 months to work alongside him and see what he does on a day-to-day basis.

"But to have him back, the enthusiasm, the love he has for this club, the love we have for the fans. He gave us that boost."

"We had a chat before we went out in the game, and it was incredible. It was silent; you could hear a pin drop because everyone was zoomed in, listening to him."

"And he made you feel a million dollars. We went up there and the lads really performed, and he's fantastic to have around."

Ex-Liverpool striker John Aldridge was just as impressed by Klopp's speech.

“I have to say, Jurgen did a little piece before the game and it was sublime,” Aldridge said.

“Lovely words of wisdom before the game, how to enjoy these moments when the football’s gone past you. I wouldn’t say it was emotional, but it was brilliant. A brilliant team talk.”

Following Thiago Alcantara's opening goal for the Reds after six minutes, Spearing extended his side's lead with a spectacular long-range effort just before half-time.

The goal left several of the 37 year old's teammates stunned, and Spearing was equally taken aback – so much so that he claimed the matchball as a keepsake.

"I don't score many goals and I didn't know what to do, genuinely," he said.

"It came at me earlier and the crowd shouted to shoot and I thought, 'Nah, that's not my game.'"

"Then when that fell to the edge of the box, I had a go. I caught it sweet; it sounded nice and thankfully it went into the top bin. It's a moment I'm going to cherish, as you can see, because I robbed the ball."
