Kai Rooney and Tottenham players show true colours with perfect Jun'ai Byfield response

Jun'ai Byfield has received a number of messages from Tottenham players after making his first‑team debut in the Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund. Thomas Frank's side returned to winning ways, ending a five‑game winless run in all competitions with a 2-0 victory over the German side.

Byfield replaced Lucas Bergvall in the 63rd minute after the midfielder was unable to continue due to a suspected ankle injury. "Just an amazing moment for me and my family," Byfield said afterwards.

"It's a moment that I worked hard for my whole life and it's finally come and I'm grateful. I was quite confident, I got told a couple of times about my role before the game so just mentally preparing and doing the right things.

"Drinking a lot of water so I don't get that cramp or anything. It's important that you prepare, even if you don't know you're not going to come on - obviously prepare right. Sleep and eat well."

The 17-year-old also took to Instagram to mark the occasion. His post read: "Happy to make my first competitive debut especially for it to be in the Champions League. Also happy to become Tottenham's youngest UCL player."

Mathys Tel led the reactions, replying 'brother' with a heart emoji, while Dominic Solanke added 'to the top!' along with a clapping emoji.

Kevin Danso wrote 'first of many!' and Destiny Udogie replied 'YESSSS!!'.

Xavi Simons posted 'my boy,' James Maddison added 'congrats son!' and Pedro Porro simply wrote 'so proud.' Meanwhile, Cristian Romero, Bergvall and Wilson Odobert all replied with emojis.

Elsewhere, Wayne Rooney's son and Manchester United academy prospect Kai also sent Byfield a message, writing 'my boy' on his Instagram story.

Asked about Byfield's debut, Spurs boss Frank said: "I think that's one of the special moments to be part of, to give a young player a debut, and not just giving him an end of the game, nice little reward or whatever, but in an important game coming on in the Champions League. Wow, what a moment. He did well, so happy for him."

Frank then went on to say that he did not look out of place during the game. "No, no, not at all," he said. "Jun'ai has impressed throughout the training. The players trust him. Clearly they rate him highly. I rate him highly.

"One thing is to get your debut for Tottenham, the last five minutes, 4-0 up and everything is smooth. Another thing is to get your debut in the Champions League, a big night against Dortmund and we needed to win the game.

"And he just came in, composed, calm, on top of this. Wow. I hope his parents are very proud. They should be."
