Kevin Danso disagrees with one big media narrative about Tottenham Hotspur

Kevin Danso believes that Tottenham Hotspur have shown that one prevalent media narrative about them is untrue.

Over the past few weeks, Thomas Frank has discovered that the media scrutiny and the expectations at Tottenham Hotspur are very different to what he experienced at Brentford.

While performances like the one the Lilywhites have delivered this season, especially at home, may have been brushed under the carpet at the Gtech Community Stadium, that has not been the case at N17.

Spurs’ recent displays have been likened to those of a League Two side, with the Dane finding it difficult to shake off the tag of being a defensive manager.

Kevin Danso says Tottenham are not reliant on set pieces to score goals

Some pundits have said that Spurs are struggling for an identity under Frank, and are too reliant on set pieces to score goals.

However, Danso insisted that while Tottenham do work hard on set-pieces, they have shown that they are more than capable of scoring goals in open play.

When asked about the idea that the Lilywhites are over-reliant on set-pieces, the Austrian told The Standard: “Under the new manager with attention to details, we’ve shown we’re really strong in set pieces this season compared to other seasons maybe.

“But we showed on Tuesday we’re not just a set-piece team. We can score goals in different ways. We want to be good at all aspects of the game. That’s the goal. You never know on the day what you might need to win the game.

“I mean, it’s not us that creates the narrative. We just want to go out and win the game. Sometimes it is through a set piece that you edge the game or open the scoring. Sometimes free-flowing football will win you the game. Our goal with the manager is to be as effective as we can on all fronts.”

Danso reveals what Frank is like behind the scenes at Spurs

Despite the harsh criticism that he has come his way, the Tottenham head coach has remained quite calm in his press conferences and has not reacted the way some of his predecessors have.

Frank is confident that Spurs will click into gear going forward in due course, and Danso has now explained that the 52-year-old is not one to lose his temper behind the scenes.

When asked about the former Brentford boss’ day-to-day demeanour, the centre-back said: “Generally relaxed and chilled. There’s one thing he says that I’ve really taken on board: ‘It’s not always as bad as you think, but it’s not always as good as you think it is’.”

“Is he still capable of an angry half-time or post-match team talk? I haven’t seen it yet, if that’s the case! Always level-headed. That does a lot of good for the team.”
