Kostas Tsimikas has dropped a potential hint over his future as he faces what could be a decisive summer.

The left-back has spent the season away on loan at Roma, having fallen down the pecking order at Anfield following the signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth last summer. Liverpool had looked to offload Tsimikas on a permanent move before settling for a temporary switch late on in the window.

The Greek international’s time in the Italian capital has not quite gone according to plan though, and as things stand, he will return to Liverpool in the summer ahead of the 2026/27 season.

What the future holds for Tsimikas may well depend on Liverpool’s plans at left-back now that Andy Robertson has confirmed he will be leaving the club at the end of his contract.

Should the Reds want to save money, it could easily do so by promoting Tsimikas to become Kerkez’s backup - a role he already filled during Robertson’s time as the first-choice left-back.

And Tsimikas may well have dropped a hint that he could be set for another chance at Anfield next season. Eagle-eyed supporters have spotted that the defender has changed his profile picture on Instagram back to one of himself wearing a Liverpool kit, albeit last season’s offering.

It’s the latest hint from the 29-year-old, whose contract on Merseyside runs until 2027, meaning this could be the last opportunity for Liverpool to recoup some money for him.

Speaking back in November, Tsimikas hinted he would be open to returning to Liverpool, despite his time at the club looking as though it had come to an end by that stage.

“I miss the city,” said Tsimikas. “I lived there for five years. I love everything in Liverpool. They have a special part of my heart.

"The people are very kind, some of the kindest I’ve ever met in football. They’d always try to support the team, in good, in bad, they would always do their best to try to help you. I want everything for this club, because from day one, I was fully committed there.

"I was the Greek Scouser and I always will be, I’ll keep it for my whole life."

Asked about his plans for the following season, Tsimikas added: “You never know. The most important thing for me is to be healthy, to train hard, to play more games.

"Next year is a different story for me. I want to be successful, I want to win things. Only God knows what will happen in the next year.”
