The North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham is set to be missing some big names, with both teams suffering from several injury concerns in the build-up to the game.

It's the match that both sets of fans search for when the fixtures are first released, as the North London Derby approaches for both Arsenal and Tottenham. It's the first meeting of the campaign for both sides, reigniting a rivalry that has had plenty of iconic moments to talk about.

Mikel Arteta and Thomas Frank will write the next chapter with their teams, but the options at their disposal are looking rather thin. Arsenal and Tottenham have been struck with injury issues, with as many as 19 stars missing from the upcoming encounter between the two.

Both managers have spoken ahead of the clash, giving some insight into the fitness of their squad, with some mixed news across the board. So, with that said, here's a look at the latest injury news ahead of the North London Derby.

Arsenal injury updates for the North London Derby

Arsenal could be missing as many as eight players when they welcome their rivals Tottenham to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The latest of those saw Gabriel Magalhaes pick up a thigh injury on international duty, which could leave him out of action for over a month.

When asked about the defender, Arteta confirmed: "Gabriel unfortunately picked up an injury with the Brazilian national team and he's going to be out for weeks." When asked for some clarity, he added: "We need to have another scan. I think it's next Wednesday, and we'll have the timeline probably much clearer than we have at the moment."

Beyond Gabriel, there was an issue for Riccardo Calafiori over the break, as he left the Italy camp with a hip issue. He is a doubt to feature in the North London Derby, with the Arsenal boss admitting that it will be down to his ability to train beforehand.

He said: "Yeah, he missed it [the games for Italy], he wasn't available, he's been carrying a few things, and we have to bring him back, and he hasn't trained yet, so tomorrow we have another training session and see how he is."

Martin Odegaard, Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Jesus, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli could make a return, though Arteta was coy about who may or may not feature. He added: "We put a lot of energy during the international break with all the medical staff as well to try to bring them as quick as possible.

"So tomorrow we have another training session, see how some of them are feeling, whether it's a bit too close to bring them in this game or we feel that they can have a contribution in the game. So tomorrow we'll have more clarity."

Kai Havertz's fitness wasn't directly addressed, though Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann claimed in midweek that the forward had a setback in his recovery, meaning a return in December could be more likely.

Tottenham injury updates for the North London Derby

While Arsenal had a large number of players facing the prospect of missing out on the North London Derby, so too have Tottenham. As many as 13 players have been out of action through injury, but Frank provided a positive injury update for Spurs on plenty of returns.

Mohammed Kudus is one of those who is set to be available, as the Tottenham head coach said: "He trained today as well, so that is good. Thank you! A long list so I need a little bit of help!"

That long list includes Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Randal Kolo Muani, on which Frank said: "They are good, most of them. Pape trained today. He's ready, available. Lucas trained today. Ready, available. Kolo Muani, yes. Trained today. Available, of course has a mask [he] needs to play with."

Archie Gray also trained along with Kota Takai and Ben Davies, suggesting all three could be available for selection once again soon. Radu Dragusin is closing in on a return too, with the defender playing for the academy to build some fitness, as Frank said: "Trained fully today. Now he's definitely getting very close to being able to be selected."

Dominic Solanke is a little bit off being available, however, as Frank said: "Dom is not ready yet. I think he also had an article recently where he spoke about it.

"So we are very, as I said, the same. Very aware that when we put him out there, we want to be absolutely sure, as sure as we can be, that no setback going forward. So I'm comfortable he will soon be ready, but I will not put a timeframe on it."

The likes of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Yves Bissouma remain on the sidelines awaiting a return to action.
