Latest Arsenal injury news as major Noni Madueke fears emerge after Man City

2 hours ago 33

Arsenal's misfortunes with injuries have continued to hurt them in the opening weeks of the Premier League season after Noni Madueke was forced off at half time in Sunday's 1- 1 draw with Manchester City.

The winger continued his fine start to life in north London with an impressive display in the first half against Pep Guardiola's side.

Madueke caused full-back Nico O'Reilly considerable difficulties down the right and nearly got himself on the scoresheet.

However, he did not come out for the second half and was replaced by Bukayo Saka. Mikel Arteta also replaced Mikel Merino with Eberechi Eze after a slow first half.

Following the draw, the Arsenal boss revealed that Madueke's withdrawal was related to an injury.

Asked if the sub was tactical, he said: "No, I think he had an issue very early in the match, and he wasn't well enough to continue."

It's now understood that the forward will undergo scans on his knee injury.

Madueke was spotted limping just before the break and was flexing his right knee while wincing in the direction of the Arsenal bench.

Any lengthy absence, in terms of deep into the season, would be a significant blow to Arteta.

Since leaving Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium, the 23-year-old has been impressive in Saka's absence in Arteta's forward line.

Saka's return comes at the perfect time with a tough trip to Newcastle awaiting them on Sunday.

William Saliba and Ben White returned against Man City alongside the academy graduate.

Unfortunately, Martin Odegaard missed the game due to the shoulder injury picked up against Nottingham Forest. He is not expected to be absent for long, though, having been touch and go to feature against City.

Summer signing Piero Hincapie was also deemed unfit to be involved on Sunday.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are still the only long-term absentees, both with knee problems.
