Arsenal suffered a new injury blow in Wednesday's goalless draw against Sporting CP as the Gunners prepare for a mouthwatering trip to Manchester City this weekend
Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Noni Madueke after the Arsenal winger appeared to suffer a knee injury in the second half of Wednesday's Champions League game against Sporting CP.
Madueke went down requiring treatment on the hour mark before it soon became clear he couldn't continue. Footage captured on TV showed the England international needing assistance as he limped off the pitch and was replaced by teenage sensation Max Dowman.
Arteta was asked about Madueke in his post-match press conference and gave a blunt response. "I don't know, it was something in his knee, so we had to take him off, so I don't know," Arteta said on the ex-Chelsea man.
With a Premier League trip to Manchester City coming up on Sunday, the last thing Arteta needed was another injury to contend with. Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber haven't featured for the Gunners since the turn of the international break, while Martin Odegaard has missed the last two matches.
When pressed for an update on Saka and Timber before the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Sporting, Arteta said: "Maybe one of them [will be available], let's see."
On Saka's injury, he added: "It was something that he was carrying for a while. It was an Achilles issue."

Odegaard, meanwhile, issued an update on his own condition to the Arsenal fans in his programme column ahead of the Sporting game. "I had to go off during the second half of that game in Portugal last week, feeling my knee, which is why I missed the game at the weekend," the Norwegian said.
"I caught it a little bit against Sporting, but hopefully it shouldn’t be too bad. I’m desperate to get back as soon as possible because this is the crucial period of the season, in the Premier League and Champions League."
Mikel Merino is still a long-term absentee for the Gunners after injuring his foot in January. Riccardo Calafiori is pushing for a return to face City, while Declan Rice played the full game against Sporting despite missing training just a day before the second leg at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal ended up holding on to a goalless draw at home to Sporting to seal a place in the Champions League semi-final after beating the Portuguese side 1-0 on aggregate. It means the Gunners now face Atletico Madrid for a place in the showpiece final in Budapest at the end of May.
But the Gunners' immediate focus is now on Sunday's gigantic trip to City in the Premier League. Just six points now separate the two in the top flight heading into the game at the Etihad Stadium with Pep Guardiola's side boasting a game in hand.
