Airdrieonians have "parted company" with Danny Lennon only eight games into his reign as manager.

The Lanarkshire side have lost six of those and sit bottom of the Scottish Championship, four points behind Ross County, after Tuesday's 4-0 home defeat by Dunfermline Athletic.

Lennon took charge on 27 August after Rhys McCabe resigned as player-manager with his side sitting third bottom after two draws and two defeats in Scotland's second tier.

The 56-year-old Lennon, who lifted the Scottish League Cup in 2013 while in charge of St Mirren, had spent three years out of management after leaving Clyde in 2022.

Airdrie announced the departure of the man who had a spell as their caretaker boss in 2016 in a two-sentence website statement.

"Airdrieonians FC confirms that it has parted company with manager Danny Lennon," they state.

"We are grateful to Danny for his efforts during his time at the club."

Having finished second bottom last season, Airdrie avoided relegation after beating Cove Rangers in the play-off final.

They started this campaign brightly, opening with a Premier Sports Cup group-stage win away to top-flight Dundee, but after three consecutive wins, they have not tasted victory in the 12 games since.
