Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior says Romeo Lavia will play against Wrexham but Estevao will miss out due to a hamstring injury.

There was good news regarding the Brazilian, however, as the English tactician revealed that he is back on the training pitch but they are continuing to be cautious over the muscle problem. Jamie Gittens is also closing in on a first-team return after suffering a hamstring injury in the 3-2 win over West Ham at the end of January.

Chelsea travel to North Wales to take on the Championship side in a blockbuster cup tie against the Red Dragons. Wrexham have been on the crest of a wave since their Hollywood takeover and have aspirations of meeting the Blues in the Premier League. Rosenior's side will have a tough task against Phil Parkinson's side on Saturday evening (5.45 kick-off).

Rosenior hinted at potential rotation with a relentless run of fixtures on the horizon, including their Champions League knockout double-header with Barcelona.

The former Strasbourg and Hull City head coach said he would utilise the players at his disposal but on Friday, he revealed that measures are being taken to monitor Estevao and Gittens but Lavia will be handed a chance to step up his comeback.

He said: "Estevao is back on the pitch but he's not ready for this one. We need to be careful given it was a hamstring injury.

"Jamie Gittens is really close which is great. He had a positive scan. I'm delighted for him, Romeo will definitely play a part. He's been itching to play but we've tried to build him in the best possible way."

Cheslea come into it on the back of an impressive 4-1 win at Aston Villa in midweek. Joao Pedro's hat-trick inspired an important three points in their pursuit of Champions League football.

Rosenior took the bold decision to drop Robert Sanchez for the win as Fillip Jorgensen deputised between the sticks for Chelsea.

The 41-year-old remained coy on the goalkeeping position but played down the battle for the number one starting berth at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior added: "For me, genuinely, I look at the goalkeeper position maybe differently. Traditionally, if there's a change of goalkeeper, people think he's now number one but that's not the case.

"Filip has been working for this opportunity and he took it really well. Rob's put in great performances as well but I want there to be competition in every area of the pitch.

"You need continuity but you need to win games of football. I don't think I've kept the same XI in any game we've played. I made the decision about the Villa game that was proven correct."
