Liam Rosenior has commented on Chelsea's discipline ahead of this weekend's clash against Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup third round. Marc Cucurella, who was shown the Blues' fifth red card of the Premier League season on Wednesday night, will miss Saturday evening's trip to The Valley.
Speaking to reporters at Cobham training ground on Friday afternoon, Rosenior reflected on the disappointing defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage. The new Blues boss said: "They show passion, emotion for the shirt, which is a really positive thing.
"But we need to stay calm when we suffer a setback. But I don't want to take the passion away from them," added Rosenior. "Calum [McFarlane] has done an incredible job.
"It's disappointing to lose any game but for 70 minutes, we played with 10 men. But they played with passion. The lads were rightfully disappointed to lose their previous coach, but I would expect everyone, any group of decent people, to be upset when their coach leaves the club."
Chelsea head into this weekend's clash without a win in six games across all competitions. Rosenior will be determined to get off to a winning start in the dugout and transform the Blues' fortunes.
"It's a tough run, it's a tough league," said the former Strasbourg boss. "We're not the only club to go through a difficult moment in the season. I have my own ideas, my own voice.
"Manchester City was an outstanding performance and we could have gone onto win the game. Fulham was difficult because of the 10 men but we're not far away."
Chelsea remain in each of the domestic cup competitions as well as the UEFA Champions League. On his aims for the campaign, Rosenior said: "I've said to the players, 'focus on winning the next game and that is how you go on a run'.
"With the talent and professionalism we have in the group, their engagement in something new, there are really positive signs. The lads won the Club World Cup a few months ago. I watched that game and the lads were fantastic."
On the weight of expectation at Stamford Bridge, Rosenior said: "I am so fortunate that I am working with some outstanding players and paid well. Pressure is a privilege and there are so many people in the world who would love to be in my shoes and I want to remember that."
