Liam Rosenior has been heavily linked with the Chelsea manager's job following Enzo Maresca's departure

Liam Rosenior could reportedly see the Strasbourg team "implode" should he leave the Ligue 1 club for Chelsea. The former Hull City manager has been strongly linked to become the Blues' next boss following Enzo Maresca's departure.

Chelsea and Maresca parted ways on New Year's Day, with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy now embarking on their search for a successor. Rosenior has quickly emerged as an early frontrunner to potentially take over from Maresca, with the 41-year-old currently managing Strasbourg in France's top flight.

Rosenior took charge of Strasbourg during the summer of 2024 and steered the club to seventh position in the Ligue 1 standings, securing UEFA Conference League qualification in the process. Football.london understands that Rosenior has impressed the Blues hierarchy during his spell in the French top-flight, with Chelsea having set their sights on appointing him.

French publication L'Equipe has reportedly spoken to 'dressing room' sources at Strasbourg, who have offered insight into the potential ramifications of Rosenior's departure.

The report suggests that should Rosenior opt to leave Strasbourg for Chelsea, it would create significant problems for the French outfit.

“Rosenior would really leave like a thief,” a source close to Strasbourg’s team is quoted as saying to L’Equipe. “It's incomprehensible. The team will implode; I see no other way out.”

On Friday, Rosenior spoke publicly for the first time regarding speculation surrounding his potential appointment as Chelsea manager, emphasising his commitment to his current role at Strasbourg.

"I'm going to talk about Nice because that's my job," Rosenior stated when quizzed about rumours linking him with the Chelsea job.

"There's a lot of noise, a lot of speculation, but as a coach, if you get involved, you fail. My job is here, I love this club."

Rosenior added: “In life, there are zero guarantees. You never know what tomorrow will bring

"I'm just doing my job. There's already been speculation. I don't want to guarantee how long I'll be here, but I enjoy myself here every day. I intend to continue doing so as long as I'm here. I love this club, but I can't guarantee anything. Nobody can.

"I want to do my job here, it's simple. The reality today is that I am the manager of Strasbourg and I am focused on my position."
