Liam Rosenior left in shock at Chelsea star as fresh Cole Palmer injury concern emerges

The main talking points from Chelsea's 2-0 win over Brentford on Saturday afternoon with goals from Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer sealing the three points for the Blues

The afternoon started with a group of Chelsea supporters, consisting of a few hundred to estimate, protesting against the club's ownership and sporting leadership team. Not only that, but on a few occasions, Enzo Maresca's name was being chanted by some outside of Stamford Bridge, less than two hours before the Blues were due to kick off against Brentford.

That felt strange. Chelsea fans - if not mistaken - only chanted Maresca's name on a handful of occasions when he was the club's head coach. In what was Liam Rosenior's first Premier League match in charge of the Blues, it all felt very strange. It seems the majority of fans, especially the match-going ones, do not actually have a problem with Rosenior but they do take issue with the model and how there was a role for the 41-year-old in the first place.

The atmosphere inside Stamford Bridge was flat. At one point in the second-half, when going over to take a corner, captain Reece James tried geeing up those behind the goal in the Matthew Harding Stand and it worked for a bit. It was a strange atmosphere throughout the afternoon, though, and that is a reflection of the mood of the fan base at the moment.

On the pitch, however, Chelsea put in a good - not brilliant, but good - performance against a good - not brilliant, but good - Brentford team. The Bees are very well set up by Keith Andrews, a promising young Premier League coach, but Chelsea had too much for them. Andrews believed his side deserved something from the game, but the Blues were the better team in both boxes.

Fernandez shines

Enzo Fernandez is a very divisive figure among Chelsea supporters and sometimes, it is difficult to see why. Yes, he can be frustrating when he's not fully on it, but who doesn't frustrate with their performances sometimes?

The bottom line is: the Argentina international now has eight goals and four assists to his name in all competitions this season. Fernandez, who celebrated his 25th birthday on Saturday, has now been directly involved in five goals in his last six appearances. The assist against Brentford came from pure determination and tenacity.

Joao Pedro finished superbly, but it was equally superb work from Fernandez to steal possession from the Bees and set up his teammate. Fernandez really ran the show at Stamford Bridge. It felt like everything good from a Chelsea perspective was going through the former Benfica midfielder and Rosenior was left in awe of the Argentine.

Speaking post-match, Rosenior said this on Fernandez: "I am so impressed. I knew what an outstanding player he was. I told him I was actually at the World Cup final when he played.

"It's not until you see a player up close and you get to know him and what he is about. I have to say he is a winner. The way he trains, the reason he plays so well is he trains 100%.

"I've enjoyed working with him. It is his birthday today, so I told him he should go to a steakhouse and enjoy some Argentinian steak. But no, he is a magnificent player. More importantly, he's a fantastic character and I love having him in this team."

Palmer injury concern

It has been a disappointing season for Cole Palmer on a personal note. Sadly, there is no getting away from that for the 23-year-old. In a season where Palmer would want to be at his absolute best, with the World Cup in the summer, he has managed just 13 appearances in all competitions due to a persistent groin injury, as well as a thigh and toe problem.

Saturday afternoon saw Palmer make his 13th appearance of the campaign, scoring his fifth goal. From the penalty spot, Palmer was ice-cold as always, though it was not a vintage performance from Chelsea's talisman.

The truth is, he didn't look fit. He managed to play 90 minutes, which was a tad surprising, and that might have taken its toll on Palmer, who was spotted on the floor at full-time, moments after the final whistle, feeling his heavily-strapped groin. He didn't look particularly comfortable.

Let's hope nothing has happened and he was just feeling the physical impact of playing 90 minutes, but it is something Rosenior is likely to be asked about in his press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
